Somewhere someone once wisely said - a rejection is a redirection for the better. It is hard to digest the fact that you are not wanted but fate usually has other plans. And what is life without challenges. How you rise above and beyond is what makes all of it count. This is the story of industrys celebrated and talented actress who was subjected to heaps of rejections and trolling as well. But it did not deter her. In her words it was her hopeless optimism that kept her going.
This actress was clear that she wanted to pursue acting. She tried her luck down south but it did not fare well. Then she stepped into Bengal and they embraced her giving her debut film. And today she is one of the pioneers who people look upto. Her name is Vidya Balan
Bengal to Bollywood
Vidya Balan grew up in Mumbai and studied at St. Anthony Girls High School Chembur. She later graduated in sociology from St. Xaviers College. She began her career with the Malayalam film Chakram starring superstar Mohanlal but the film was shelved reports NDTV Movies. She then signed a Tamil film Run but was removed from the film shortly after and Meera Jasmine was cast in her place. She was then offered another Tamil film Manasellam starring actor Srikanth but she was dropped from this film as well. Tanu Krishna was cast in her place.
However her relentless pursuits got her a place in Hindi television show Hum Paanch. This sitcom earned critical appreciation. In 2003 she made her screen debut with Bengali film Bhalo Theko (2003). She got her breakthrough moment with Parineeta in 2005. Her performance was critically acclaimed and later followed a trail of commercial successful projects.
Her notebale works include Paa Ishquiya No One Killed Jessica Kahaani The Dirty Picture Bhool Bhulaiya among others.
Looking back at her journey Balan once revealed how she meandered he way through the turmoil of being in showbiz. I think I am hopelessly optimistic. Like even when I was going through a lot of rejection down south way back in 2002-03 I used to go to sleep crying. I used to feel like maybe I am never going to become an actor she said speaking with Bollywood Bubble.
The Kahaani actress is a self-made women who stands for herself. Her unwavering efforts to always get up from bottom got her place she deserved. But the next morning I would wake up feeling like… I think the sunrise was enough to give me hope. If I have made it to another sunrise I knew that it meant I have another chance. So I think it didn’t matter what I was going through. I always had that optimism and I have to say thank you to my parents for that she added.
She received several accolades for her performance. Balans short film Natkhat was in the race for Oscars in 2021.
