Shah Rukh Khan is not just an actor but an emotion for millions of people in India. SRK has not only made a name for himself in the country but his fans from abroad also shower him with immense love. Known as the King of Romance in Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan delivered back-to-back hits in 2023. His versatility shines through in every role making fans go gaga over him. However do you know that when SRK started his career he played the role of a gay man opposite Manoj Bajpayee?
While many people believe that Shah Rukh Khans debut film was Deewana that was not the start of his acting career. Yes Shah Rukh Khan actually began his journey with the TV film Annie Gives It Those Ones.
Annie Gives It Those Ones was a 1989 Indian English-language TV film written by Arundhati Roy and directed by Pradip Krishen. The film featured Arjun Raina as the title character with Roshan Seth and Arundhati Roy in key roles. Apart from them the film also turned out to be a stepping stone for Shah Rukh Khan and Manoj Bajpayee in terms of securing a decent acting gig.
At that time both actors were struggling to get good roles. Though SRKs role was small it was significant. The film was never released in theatres as it was made for television and aired on Doordarshan in 1989.
The plot was set in the 1970s at the National Institute of Architecture New Delhi revolving around Anand Grover known as Annie a misguided visionary who lands in trouble for mocking the principal Y.D. Billimoria also known as Yamdoot. The film was well received by the audience and went on to win two National Awards.
When the film was made no one ever imagined that SRK would become such a big star. Today he is one of the biggest actors in the industry and reportedly charges Rs 100 crore per film. Shah Rukh Khan made a powerful comeback in 2023 with Pathaan Jawan and Dunki collectively grossing over Rs 2500 crore. The actor is now gearing up for his next film King.
