“Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton are the biggest concern for Mumbai Indians”: Ex-player highlights the weakness of five-time champions

Mumbai Indians are under pressure after losing two consecutive matches in the Indian Premier League 2025. They went down against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk and then to Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium. They haven’t been able to challenge their rivals, and the batters and bowlers have been below par so far. The five-time champions are running out of time because the comeback will not be possible if they fail to find the momentum.

Rohit Sharma, who showed some form in the ICC Champions Trophy, has returned to his struggling days. The veteran cannot handle the pacers and is getting out in the powerplay overs.

He was dismissed by CSK’s Khaleel Ahmed while Mohammed Siraj clean-bowled him at the Narendra Modi Stadium. His South African opening partner, Ryan Rickelton, also faces form issues in the 18th season. Former India player Suresh Raina feels the openers’ failures are the biggest concern for the Hardik Pandya-led team.

Rohit played as an impact sub against CSK, but the team management included him in the playing XI against GT.

“Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton are the biggest concern for Mumbai Indians. They need runs in the first six overs of the innings. This is what Sai Sudarshan and Shubman Gill did for Gujarat Titans.

“If the openers provide a good start to MI, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya can capitalize in the middle and death overs. I think Mumbai will come good in their home matches at the Wankhede Stadium,” Suresh Raina said on Star Sports.
