New Delhi . The controversy over the Digital Censorship between the social media platform X and the Government of India, owned by the famous industrialist Alan Musk and the Government of India, has now reached the court (COURT). In the Karnataka High Court, the Central Government has filed an affidavit and rejected X's claims. The government said that X has wrongly described the 'Cooperation Portal' as a sensorship portal, which is unfortunate and condemnable.
What did X accuse?
The X recently filed a case against the central government in the Karnataka High Court. The X alleges that the Government of India is misusing Section 69 (A) of the IT Act and blocking online content without adopting appropriate procedure. X claims that this is affecting the freedom of online expression.
The main charge of X is on the 'Sahyog Portal', which the government has created for better coordination between social media companies and government agencies. The X says that the government is using this portal to block direct content, which is a violation of the provisions of IT law.
Central government cleaning
In the affidavit filed in the court, the government described X's allegations as completely baseless and said that the X is trying to show its interests with the rights of the users in the wrong way. The government says, “A global social media company like X should avoid using such terminology. This case only shows an attempt to avoid its responsibilities.” The government made it clear that the collaboration portal is designed to ensure a safe digital environment and it is misleading to call it a censorship portal.
What kind of case is?
This dispute is associated with freedom of freedom of expression vs. Digital Regulation. The X has been continuously accusing the government of over-control, while the Center says that it is taking necessary steps to protect the digital space.
