Instagram, which is owned by Meta, has introduced a new feature that lets users skip through Reel videos at twice the speed. This feature seems to come as a response to TikTok’s notable playback feature. It allows users to double the speed of a reel while long pressing either the right or left side of the screen.
How do you fast forward Instagram Reels?
As mentioned by 9to5Mac, Instagram has started widely enabling the feature that lets users fast forward through reels at 2x speed. Since Instagram raised the duration of Reels to three minutes, this feature became more desirable. Being able to forward reels would benefit users who wish to speedily get through longer reels.
This isn’t the first time Instagram has copied TikTok. TikTok incorporated the 2x speed featurein in 2023 and Instagram previously added a remix tool that duplicated TikTok’s duets. The new Reels fast forwarding feature is being updated for iOS as well as android users incrementally and is expected to be available for everyone in a few days.
Meta is introducing this new feature as part of a wider rework and will also adjust photos and videos along the lines of TikTok, moving away from the defaulted videos, hashtags, accounts, and places search results.
