Warmer weather brings with it the struggle of ant invasions. The sudden appearance of ants in your home can be extremely frustrating, and once they are established, infestations can be difficult to get rid of. However, pest control expert Jonathan Nichols at HomeHow.co.uk has shared how to get rid of ants for good and stop them returning.

To stop ants from coming back into your home, you need to get rid of the pheromone trails they follow to find their way from the nest to your home. work together in teams and search for food sources using pheromones. These pheromones leave a trail for other ants to follow.

So, simply sweeping away the ants won't be effective, as the pheromone trail will still be there. Instead, you will need to completely destroy the trail. You can do this by mixing together one part vinegar with three parts water and spraying this mixture directly onto any space where you've seen the ants.

You can also mix glass cleaning spray with some liquid dish soap together in a spray bottle. Spray this mixture in any areas where you have seen the ants and then wipe the area down, leaving behind just a light residue.

This will remove the ant pheromones and can prevent them from being able to follow the trail, effectively stopping the ants from coming back.

Ants also hate the smell of peppermint and lavender. Mix a solution of either peppermint oil or lavender oil together with water and spray the mixture on and around any entry points, such as around doors and windows.

Diatomaceous earth is also great for killing ants. It absorbs the oils in the ant's skeletons, causing them to dry out. However, you must avoid breathing this in or getting it on your skin, as it can be a bad irritant.
