Winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Sunrisers Hyderabad were put on the back foot due to Abhishek Sharma’s brain-faded runout followed by Mitchell Starc’s new-ball brilliance. The Aussie bowled three overs inside the powerplay, scalping three wickets to the Orange Army to 37/4 at the start of the fifth over. Aniket Verma and Heinrich Klaasen survived the powerplay before playing aggressive strokes in the middle-overs phase. Despite the early setbacks, the right-handed batters propelled them to 105/4 in 10 overs. In the next over, Mohit Sharma outsmarted Klaasen before Aniket smacked a couple of sixes and a four against Axar Patel to take Hyderabad to 140/7 in 15 overs. Subsequently, Kuldeep Yadav attained his third scalp by removing Verma for 41-ball 74 before Mitchell Starc cleaned the tail to fetch his maiden five-wicket haul in T20s and restrict the Orange Army to 163 runs.

Unlike their counterparts, the Capitals got off to a steady start with Faf du Plessis reversing roles with Jake Fraser-McGurk at the top. The former played the aggressor’s knock while the latter seemed to be grafting the innings, pushing the scoreboard to 52 runs inside the powerplay. The pair converted the start into an 81-run stand before Zeeshan Ansari removed the openers with the score 96/2 at the midway mark. Subsequently, KL Rahul played three attacking shots before getting cleaned up around the legs by Ansari. However, Tristan Stubbs and Abishek Porel ensured no more hiccups in their innings as the Capitals steamrolled Hyderabad by seven wickets and four overs to spare.
