New Delhi: MS Dhoni and Ravichandran Ashwin share a unique partnership in the Indian Premier League. Not many realize but the experienced off-spinner has had 10 batters stumped in IPL history with Dhoni behind the stumps for an impressive nine of them.
This extraordinary statistic highlights both Ashwins craftiness and Dhonis lightning-fast reflexes which have consistently outwitted batters over the past 18 seasons. Four of these stumpings occurred off wide deliveries. According to Cricviz data Ashwin’s most successful stumping records come from his time with CSK and Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) where he stumped nine batters across 114 matches.

However during his time with Punjab Kings Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals Ashwin was only involved in one stumping across 101 matches. The significant difference in these statistics indicates that Ashwins most effective performances came with Dhoni behind the stumps.
MS Dhoni-R Ashwin duo works in RR vs CSK:
On Sunday it was the Dhoni-Ashwin partnership that removed Rana as the off-spinner deliberately bowled a wide delivery outside the southpaws hitting range allowing Dhoni to complete the stumping. However before that Rana had displayed his power-hitting ability with a dazzling 81 off 36 balls leading the Rajasthan Royals to a competitive total of 182/9 in their IPL clash.
Promoted to number 3 the left-handed Nitish took charge dominating the CSK bowlers with 10 boundaries and 5 sixes after Rajasthan Royals were put in to bat first by CSK.
On the other hand Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and chose to bowl. Coming off a defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore at home CSK made two changes: Jamie Overton replaced Sam Curran and Vijay Shankar came in for Deepak Hooda. Rajasthan Royals who had lost their opening two games named an unchanged XI.
