Venice has officially announced that it will be hosting the wedding of billionaire Jeff Bezos and his bride-to-be Lauren Sanchez, while also putting to rest rumors indicating mass disruptions to the city's daily routine.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Italian city explained that the ceremony is well within its capabilities and will not impact local residents or tourists.

A Carefully Planned Celebration

The highly publicized marriage of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez will be attended by around 200 people, city officials stated. The authorities assured that the figure is within limits and does not represent any logistical obstacle to Venice's normal operations.

Although the actual wedding date has not been announced, there are reports that parties will be extended over three days, June 24 through June 26, as mentioned in the Forbes article.

The city government also dispelled widespread allegations that Venice's famous gondolas and water taxis were booked exclusively for the wedding.

In its release, Venice flatly denied these allegations, saying that no excessive gondola or transport bookings had been made.

"Venice has not reserved a lot of gondolas or an excessive number of water taxis for the wedding," officials said, adding that business-as-usual operations will not be affected.

City's Adherence to Maintaining Normalcy

Mayor of Venice Luigi Brugnaro confirmed that the city is coordinating closely with the wedding planners to ensure that the event will not disrupt the normal life of the city.

In addition, he emphasized that all the preparations would be in line with Venice's cultural and architectural heritage.

"Several international events much bigger than this have been successfully hosted by our city," the statement said, responding to the fears expressed by local and foreign media. Authorities downplayed the rumors that the city's infrastructure would be strained by the sudden presence of high-profile visitors, describing those as "wholly unsubstantiated."

Bezos' Wedding Amid Widespread Speculation

Gossip surrounding the wedding plans of Jeff Bezos has picked pace in recent times, with word having it that the wedding will be attended by a large list of celebrities and VIPs.

There were rumors that Venice hotels were booked up and that Venice's entire gondola taxi fleet had been taken up solely for Bezos' wedding.

But the gondola association in the city has denied an unprecedented surge of bookings for the month of June, as covered by CNN.

Amazon founder and executive chairman Jeff Bezos is the world's second-richest person, with a net worth estimated at $209.2 billion.

His affair with former TV host and journalist Lauren Sanchez became public in 2019. The two became engaged in May 2023.

Bezos was previously married to novelist and philanthropist MacKenzie Scott for 25 years and has four children with her.
