Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A lecturer at a government girls' college was found in an inebriated state on a busy road in Rewa district, drawing the attention of bystanders. A video of the incident went viral on social media on Sunday. In the footage, the middle-aged lecturer appeared heavily intoxicated, struggling to walk.

The video was recorded near the Civil Lines police station and Peeli Kothi compound and was widely circulated online. Eyewitnesses initially believed the man was unwell and called an ambulance to assist him.

However, upon arrival, paramedics found that he was intoxicated and left without providing medical aid. Following the incident, which took place on Saturday, the Government Girls PG College assured that it would take up the matter with its hiring committee, which had recruited the professor on a contractual basis.

College principal Dr. Vibha Shrivastava said that she had seen the video and acknowledged that the man was a contractual lecturer. She stated that he had been given a break from teaching.

Contractual lecturers, she explained, are appointed temporarily through a merit-based public participation system. They are periodically given breaks before being rehired. Dr. Shrivastava clarified that the incident did not occur on the college campus and assured that she would bring up the matter before the hiring committee chairperson on April 1.
