March 31, New Delhi Former England captain Andrew Flintoff’s oldest child, Corey, has agreed to a two-year rookie deal with Kent. Like his father, Corey is a fast bowling all-rounder who plays county cricket in England after his younger brother Rocky.

In addition to playing for Lancashire’s Academy teams and age levels, the 19-year-old created waves last year when he played for Lancashire’s Second XI and represented the North at the Bunbury Cricket Festival in 2021. But a stress fracture in his back stopped him in his tracks.

Flintoff, whose contract with Lancashire is coming to an end, was seen practicing with Kent’s first squad this week. He also bowled four overs in the team’s most recent two-day warm-up game against Essex on Friday at The Spitfire Ground in St Lawrence.

“I’m excited to work with Adam Hollioake and the outstanding coaching team at Kent to further grow as a player. This week, the guys in the changing room have been very kind to me, and the vibe is fantastic.

Corey stated in a statement released by the team on Monday, “I’m excited for what’s next for me and I know that Kent is the right place for me to make the step up to first-team cricket.”

For at least the next two seasons, Corey will be able to play for the county surrounding his university studies according to the agreement with Kent. “Corey is a very dynamic young player with excellent all-around ability to take wickets and score runs.

He works really hard, and I have no doubt that he is driven to succeed in professional cricket. Simon Cook, Kent’s Director of Cricket, expressed his happiness that he believes he can do this as a Kent cricket player.

Between 1998 and 2009, Flintoff made 227 appearances for England in all three formats and was considered by many to be one of their greatest all-round players in international cricket history.

Rocky, who signed a contract with Lancashire, made a century against a Cricket Australia XI in Brisbane in January while serving as head coach of the England Lions. He has worked in a number of coaching setups in recent years.
