Veteran actress Smita Patil is still remembered for her powerful and impactful performances. Carrying forward her legacy another talented woman from her family also stepped into the world of cinema. Starting her career as newsreader she first worked as air hostess before transitioning into modelling and eventually making her way into films.
The actress is none other Vidya Malvade. Best known for her role as Vidya Sharma the captain of the Indias women hockey team in Shah Rukh Khans iconic film Chak De India Vidya has been part of more than dozen of Bollywood films. However despite her presence in the industry she has now distanced herself from films and lives away from the limelight.

She pursued degree in law before embarking on career as an air hostess. During this period she met Captain Arvind Singh Bagga Alliance Air pilot and they married in 1997 when she was 24 yes old. Tragically in 2000 just three years into marriage Captain Bagga died in a plane crash and Vidya became a widow at the age of 27.
Vidya was devastated by her husbands untimely death and in moment of despair she attempted to end her life by consuming sleeping pills. However her father intervened and saved her. Determined to rebuild herself she turned into meditation which brought positive transformation into her life. Eventually she stepped into the world of films through modelling. In 2004 she made her Bollywood debut with Vikram Bhatts Inteha but most of her films failed to make an impact. It was in 2007 that she finally gained recognition with Chak De India. The film became a massive success earning Rs 109 crore against the budget of Rs 20 crore and cemented her place in the industry.
