Thane: The Water supply to Kalyan Railway Station was temporarily disconnected by civic authorities over the weekend due to unpaid dues amounting to Rs. 4.41 crore. Kalyan Railway Station is considered as the one of the busiest junctions on Mumbai's suburban rail network

The water supply was cut off on Saturday evening but was restored by Sunday after the railway authorities began the process of paying the outstanding bill of ₹1.17 crore, according to the report.

Despite receiving prior notices from the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC), railway authorities failed to clear the outstanding dues, prompting Assistant Municipal Commissioner Sachin Tamkhede to disconnect the water supply to Kalyan Railway Station on Saturday. The station, located in Thane district, was affected by this decision, according to a release from the civic body, as reported by the news agency PTI.

However, after urgent discussions with the KDMC, railway authorities initiated the payment process for the current bill of Rs. 1.17 crore. They assured the KDMC that the remaining dues would be cleared soon.

Following this, as per the report KDMC Commissioner Dr. Indu Rani Jakhar ordered the immediate restoration of the water supply to Kalyan station on Sunday evening. Tamkhede further mentioned that a meeting with railway officials would be held next week to address the issue of the outstanding dues.

The KDMC is currently running a drive to recover property tax and water charges for the financial year 2024-25, with March 31, 2025, set as the deadline.
