Every year many films are made in Bollywood in which many actors and actresses are in the lead roles. However every film doesnt need to get the title of a hit or blockbuster. There have been some films that may have flopped badly at the box office but now they are considered cult films on TV. Today we will tell you about one such film which proved to be a flop at the box office but is recommended to be watched on TV due to being called a cult classic by fans.
Here we are talking about the film Taqdeerwala in which actors like Venkatesh Raveena Tandon Kader Khan Anupam Kher and Shakti Kapoor have played important roles. Taqdeerwala was released in 1995. Taqdeerwala was the first film in which Raveena Tandon played the role of a villain despite playing the lead actress. Yes she was in the lead role but Raveena Tandon was also the villain of the story.
Taqdeerwala is a comedy film that is still popular among the audience for its dialogues Yam Hain Hum and Akkum-Bakkam. However Taqdeerwala directed by K Murali Mohan Rao and produced by D Rama Naidu under the banner of Suresh Productions proved to be a flop in Hindi despite a stellar star cast but it did well in other languages.
The poor performance of Taqdeerwala at the box office made Venkatesh feel very bad and after doing it he never looked back towards Hindi cinema again. He distanced himself from Hindi films for a long time. Interestingly the shooting of the film was completed in just 30 days. Taqdeerwala proved to be a flop when it was released in theatres it has become one of the cult films on TV today.
Taqdeerwala which was made on a budget of about Rs 3 crore earned only Rs 5.73 crore in the Hindi belt. In this way the film recovered its cost completely and the makers also made a profit through it. It wouldnt be wrong to say that despite the star power and storyline Taqdeerwala eventually became one of Raveena Tandons biggest flops.
