An 18-year-old woman in China has gained attention for her decision to live in her workplace bathroom, citing financial constraints. Yang, from a rural family in Hunan province, works in a furniture store in Zhuzhou and earns Rs 31,776 (2,700 yuan) per month, significantly below the city's average salary of Rs 88,266 (7,500 yuan). With local rental prices ranging from Rs 9,415 (800 yuan) to Rs 21,184 (1,800 yuan), she found it difficult to afford housing, a report published in South China Morning Post stated.

Agreement With Employer

Faced with limited options, Yang approached her employer and negotiated a deal to rent the office bathroom, measuring six square meters, for Rs 588 (50 yuan) per month. She documents her daily life on Douyin, a Chinese social media platform, where she has 16,000 followers. Her routine includes washing clothes in the bathroom and drying them on the rooftop. During business hours, she clears the space to allow customers and employees to use the restroom.
