Interestingly the film was initially rejected by both Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan. However Bhai stepped in like an angel and saved the producers reputation. The actors fortune changed after working in his brothers film. Since it was a family project he was compelled to appear in a song which later became a super hit. However his costumes for the film were purchased from Chor Bazaar.
The Heroine Got Her Desired Fee
The blockbuster movie Mr. India released in 1989 starred Anil Kapoor and Sridevi. Casting Sridevi in the film was not easy for producer Boney Kapoor. Her mother initially demanded a fee of ₹10 lakhs stating that she would leave the decision to him. However he offered ₹11 lakhs instead. This was a historic moment in Bollywood as it marked the first time an actress was paid more than the lead hero.
Clothes Bought for the Hero from Chor Bazaar
Renowned filmmaker Shekhar Kapur revealed an interesting fact on social media while wishing Anil Kapoor on his birthday. He shared that Anil Kapoor wore the same jacket shirt trousers cap and shoes throughout Mr. India—most of which were purchased from Chor Bazaar.
Notably the film’s story written by Salim-Javed was completed back in 1980. Initially the makers considered casting Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna in the lead roles. However both actors rejected the project after hearing the script as they found the concept of invisibility difficult to grasp. Eventually Anil Kapoor stepped in like a savior and became a part of the blockbuster film.
