Bhosari MLA Mahesh Landge recently raised the issue of liquor shops operating in residential zones in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, demanding action against them. Later, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar announced that the liquor shops in such areas will require a no objection certificate (NOC) from the respective society where they are located.
Following this announcement, four liquor shops in Pimpri-Chinchwad have been sealed. Landge took to X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday to share this news. He stated that the shops that have been sealed were from Chikhali, Jadhavwadi and Moshi areas of the city.
Landge wrote, "Across Maharashtra, including Pimpri-Chinchwad, common citizens have been facing undue hardship due to liquor vendors violating regulations in residential areas and society premises. Addressing this concern, during the Legislative Assembly budget session on March 11, 2025, I demanded that the state government take strict action. The Mahayuti government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, assured immediate enforcement of the rules."
"Following the government’s directives, we pursued complaints from the Society Federation and residents with the State Excise Department, leading to a thorough investigation. As a result, the licenses of the four liquor shops have been permanently revoked with immediate effect. These liquor shops have now been sealed in my presence," he added.
"This action was carried out under the orders of Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi and with the guidance of Rana Rajput, Superintendent of the State Excise Department, Pune District. We remain committed to ensuring strict implementation of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, 1949. For the people of Pimpri-Chinchwad, now it’s: No Discussion, No Confusion, Only Action," the BJP MLA concluded.
