Dr. Huynh Tan Vu from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at HCMC emphasizes that fruits are a vital source of vitamin C, an essential nutrient that replenishes energy and supports the immune system.

Here are five fruits that are rich in vitamin C and can help boost immunity:

1. Star fruits

Star fruits are loaded with vitamin C and antioxidants like gallic acid and quercetin, which help reduce inflammation. However, individuals with kidney disease or those on certain medications should avoid this fruit, as it may cause severe side effects.

2. Pears

Pears are effective in relieving coughs, reducing phlegm, soothing the lungs, and supporting the treatment of high blood pressure and cardiovascular conditions. However, because pears have a cooling effect, they should be avoided by people experiencing stomachaches or diarrhea.

3. Limes

Limes are rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, making them great for detoxifying the body and boosting immunity. Dr. Vu recommends drinking one cup (250 ml) of concentrated lime juice per day, diluted and consumed throughout the day.

However, consuming too much lime juice can erode tooth enamel, cause stomach ulcers, and lead to acid reflux.

4. Oranges

Oranges are packed with vitamin C, which supports immune cell production, reduces inflammation, and acts as an antioxidant. It’s best to avoid drinking orange juice at night, during gastric ulcers, or immediately before or after milk. Additionally, when taking medications, wait one to two hours before consuming orange juice to ensure its effectiveness.

5. Watermelons

Watermelons are high in water and vitamin C, helping to cool the body, promote urination, and support the treatment of high blood pressure and fever. However, large amounts of watermelon at once should be avoided to prevent digestive issues.

Incorporating these vitamin C-rich fruits into your daily diet can strengthen your immune system and improve overall health.
