Chhath Puja is celebrated with great devotion especially in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. Making Thekua has great importance during Chhath Puja. This Thekua is offered to Chhathi Mata. Thekua is delicious, crispy and full of sweetness. So let's know how it can be prepared quickly.

Ingredients

Wheat flour – 500 grams
Jaggery – 250 grams (dissolved)
Coconut (grated) – 1/4 cup
Fennel seeds – 1 teaspoon
Cardamom powder – 1/2 teaspoon
Ghee – 2-3 tablespoons (for kneading)
Ghee or oil for frying – as required

Method

Prepare the jaggery batter: Firstly, cut the jaggery into small pieces and melt it well by adding it in 1 cup of water. Keep it aside to cool.

Knead the dough: In a large vessel, add wheat flour, grated coconut, fennel seeds and cardamom powder. Then add melted jaggery and mix well. Now add 2 to 3 tablespoons of ghee and knead the dough well. Keep in mind that the dough should neither be too hard nor too soft.

Shape the Thekua: Make small balls of dough and then press them with your hand and roll them in a round or oval shape. If you want, you can also make designs on the Thekua with a fork.

Fry: Heat oil or ghee in a pan. Fry the Thekua on low flame till it becomes golden and crispy. Fry well on both sides till it becomes golden, then take it out and place it on tissue paper so that excess oil drains out.

Cool and store: Let the fried Thekua cool down and then store it in an airtight container.
