Kris Srikkanth explained how could be more effective if he is brought into the attack by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after the powerplay. The former India opener's advice comes after the five-time champions suffered back-to-back defeats against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR).
CSK started their campaign in the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with a win against Mumbai Indians (MI). However, the results have not gone their way in the last two games. Ashwin has bowled 10 overs across the three matches and picked up three wickets. However, he has conceded runs at an economy rate of 9.90. The former India cricketer has bowled one over inside the powerplay in each of the three games. In the three overs he has bowled inside the powerplay, Ashwin has conceded 49 runs and picked up a solitary wicket.
Apart from explaining why Ashwin could make more impact from overs 7 to 18, Srikkanth urged the CSK management to bring in Devon Conway and Anshul Kamboj into the lineup.
“Conway has to come in place of Jamie Overton and also bring in Anshul Kamboj into the XI. With regards to Ashwin, don’t drop him, but stop him from bowling in the powerplay. Between 7-18th over he can be effective, with Jadeja and Noor Ahmad, they can easily slip in 10 overs at least. I will drop Tripathi and bring in Kamboj and then Conway in place of Overton,” Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.
Srikkanth backed CSK to keep Shivam Dube in the XI and use Andre Siddarth as the Impact Player. The cricketer-turned-expert also suggested the inclusion of left-arm seamer Mukesh Chowdhary, who has been with the franchise for quite some time.
“I would make Shivam Dube play in the XI and bring in Andre Siddarth as an Impact Player. Even Mukesh Chowdhary is a good option, he has bowled well for CSK in the past,” Srikkanth added.
The Super Kings will return to action on Saturday, April 5, when they take on the Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
