's Georgina Burnett caused outrage amongst fans online after she attempted to get into the festivities of April Fools Day (April 1). The 46-year-old DIY expert sent fans wild after she shared a snap of herself sporting a blossoming baby bump on Instagram.
The mum-of-two simply captioned the sweet snap "news" as fans rushed to her page to congratulate her on her exiting announcement. When her loyal followers questioned whether the post was genuine or part of a cheeky April Fool's Day prank, she refused to deny it but simply replied with a winking emoji.
However, the light-hearted prank didn't go down well with fans as they swarmed to her social media posts to share their disappointment online.
Blasting her for insensitivity towards those who struggle to achieve or sustain pregnancy, one fan wrote: " 'As a grown adult you actually think this is funny? Embarrassing. I'm sure you've meant no offence but this is in incredibly poor taste!"
A second fan chimed in: "This is deeply hurtful to the huge number of women suffering with infertility. Did you know 1/4 of pregnancies end in miscarriage and 1/6 of couples have trouble falling pregnant? You would do well to consider this before making "jokes" about such sensitive topics in the future. Incredibly insensitive if this is a joke."
A third posted an anguished emoji alongside the words: "Yikes, not funny at all." had previously staged a similar stunt back in 2022 for April Fool's, and received an equally enraged reaction among those who felt it touched a raw nerve.
It comes after pregnancy and baby loss charity Tommy's shared an online post warning against spoof pregnancy announcements, reading: "With April Fool's Day tomorrow, some people may be preparing to prank their loved ones...
"But, for the thousands of people in the UK struggling during or after pregnancy complications, fertility problems or loss, these fake pregnancy announcements are not a joke.
"Some people who have had a difficult pregnancy journey might not have shared this with their friends or family. And photos of scans or pregnancy tests can be hard to look at even when they're real, meaning pranks like this can be especially hurtful."
Georgina has since deleted the post, replacing it instead with a happy birthday tribute dedicated to her cat.
