[India], Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Punjab Kings (PBKS) opener and wicketkeeper-batter Prabhsimran Singh gave an explanation for his side’s use of sweeps and switch hits in the 13th match of the current 18th season of the lucrative league after his team defeated the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by eight wickets.

Iyer-led PBKS continued to establish their dominance over LSG at Ekana Stadium on Tuesday, winning two straight games at the beginning of the season with to continuous hitting from Prabhsimran Singh, Iyer, and Nehal Wadhera after a calm bowling performance.

At an incredible strike rate of 202.94, Prabhsimran Singh scored 69 runs off 34 balls in an incredible performance that included nine boundaries and three maximums.

In a post-match presentation, the 24-year-old player discussed his shots, saying, “As everyone knows, he’s such a legend” (referring to coach Ponting). He’s always so upbeat. He doesn’t consider hypothetical scenarios. He has requested that we support our game. I’ve worked on the sweeps and switch hits a lot in the nets. If you want to play for India, there is one platform that may help you get there.”

Ayush Badoni (41 in 33 balls, with a four and three sixes), Nicholas Pooran (44 in 30 balls, with five fours and three sixes), and a fiery cameo by Abdul Samad (27 in 12 balls, with two fours and two sixes) gave LSG something to fight for after they were put to bat first and were reeling at 35/3. With three wickets and figures of 3/43, Arshdeep was the best bowler. With the exception of a half-century partnership between Pooran and Badoni for the fourth wicket, nothing really got going for LSG as they found it difficult to establish lasting partnerships. Other wickets taken were Marco Jansen, Lockie Ferguson, Glenn Maxwell, and Yuzi Chahal.

PBKS did lost Priyansh Arya (8) early in the run-chase. However, with 22 balls remaining, PBKS won by eight wickets thanks to powerful performances by Prabhsimran Singh (69 in 34 balls, with nine fours and two sixes), captain Shreyas Iyer (52* in 30 balls, with three fours and four sixes), and Nehal Wadhera (43* in 25 balls, with three fours and four sixes).

Digvesh Rathi’s four-over spell of 2/30 was insufficient.

LSG dropped to sixth place with a victory and two defeats, while PBKS, now in second place in the points standings, made it two victories in two.
