CBSE Board Exam: The board exams of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) are going to end on April 4. Meanwhile, CBSE has warned the students of 'dummy schools' that those students who do not attend regular classes will not be allowed to appear in the 12th board examination. A board official said that the student and his parents will be responsible for the ill effects of admission in 'dummy schools'.
CBSE is considering making changes in the examination by-laws as part of the ongoing action against 'dummy schools' so that such students who go to school only for the namesake can be prevented from appearing in the board examinations. Such students will now have to appear for the board examination of the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). Recently, a senior board official told the news agency PTI that if a student is found missing from school or is absent during a surprise inspection, then such a student will not be allowed to appear in the CBSE board examination.
What is a dummy school?
In the last few years, the trend of admission to 'dummy schools' has increased a lot. Dummy schools are schools where students do not have to go. Coaching institutes tie up with regular schools to reduce the school workload on students. By doing this, the student gets more time to prepare for other entrance exams like NEET, JEE, or NDA. Parents, who want to make their children engineers and doctors, get them admitted in 'dummy schools' and send them to Kota to prepare for NEET and JEE. The child comes to school only to collect the admit card to appear in CBSE board exams and to collect the mark sheet and certificate after the board results.
Applicable from academic session 2025-2026
The official also said that the board will take action against schools promoting 'dummy' culture and as per the examination by-laws. In the recent Governing Board meeting of the board, it has been recommended to implement this decision from the academic session 2025-2026.
75 percent attendance is mandatory for board exams
As per CBSE board rules, a minimum of 75 percent attendance of students is mandatory in schools to appear in CBSE board exams. If the required attendance of the student is not met, he/she will not be allowed to appear in the board exams. However, the board gives 25 percent relaxation in attendance to students only in cases like medical emergencies, participation in national or international sports events, and other serious reasons.
