Lucknow Supergiants suffered another crushing defeat on the night of April 1 in IPL 2025. Punjab Kings also won their second consecutive match. After this defeat, Lucknow's newly-appointed captain and the most expensive player in the history of the tournament, Rishabh Pant admitted that his team had not scored enough runs.
Rishabh Pant said that his team scored 20 to 25 runs less. Pant said after the match, 'It was not enough, we fell behind by 20-25 runs. This is a part of the game - it was our first home match so we are still assessing the conditions.'
Rishabh Pant said, 'Of course. It is always difficult when you lose early wickets (to score big). You cannot control everything, but every player was trying to take the match forward.'
He said, 'Our idea was to get a slow wicket because we felt it was a home match, the ball would stop a bit. We did not perform well enough. We will learn from this and move forward. There are a lot of positives. The team still has to figure out a lot of things at the start of the tournament and hopefully, it will be good for us.'
Talking about the match, Punjab Kings won the toss and elected to bowl first at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Thanks to Nicholas Pooran's 44 and Ayush Badoni's 41 runs, the host team was able to score 171 runs for seven wickets.
In response to the target of 172 runs, Punjab Kings won by scoring 177 runs for two wickets in 16.2 overs, thanks to Prabhsimran Singh's 69 runs in 34 balls with three sixes and nine fours and his 84-run partnership for the second wicket with captain Shreyas Iyer (52 runs, 30 balls, four sixes, three fours).
