Punjab Kings registered their second consecutive IPL 2025 win with a commanding eight-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants. Chasing 172, PBKS reached the target in just 16.2 overs, riding on explosive knocks from Prabhsimran Singh (69 off 34), Shreyas Iyer (52* off 30), and Nehal Wadhera (43* off 25).
The match swung in Punjab’s favor during the opening halves of both innings. Their bowlers applied pressure from the start on a slightly slow pitch, limiting LSG to 76/3 at the halfway mark. Though Nicholas Pooran attempted to rebuild with a brisk 44, LSG could only manage 171/7.
Lucknow started poorly with three wickets in the powerplay, including a first-ball dismissal for Mitchell Marsh. Aiden Markram and Rishabh Pant also departed early, leaving LSG at 39/3 after six overs.
Nicholas Pooran led a middle-overs recovery alongside Ayush Badoni. Pooran hit regular boundaries and was effective against spin, helping his side post 78/1 in the middle phase. He fell for 44, just short of a half-century, while David Miller added quick runs before falling to Marco Jansen.
Badoni and Abdul Samad helped Lucknow cross 170 with a late flourish. A big 18th over from Arshdeep Singh went for 20 runs, but the pacer bounced back in the final over to dismiss both batters and finish with 3/43.
Prabhsimran Singh started the chase aggressively, smashing a 23-ball fifty—the fastest in Lucknow in IPL history. His boundary spree took PBKS to 110/1 in 10 overs, comfortably ahead of the required rate.
Following Prabhsimran’s dismissal, Shreyas Iyer and Nehal Wadhera continued the momentum. Wadhera launched two sixes off Bishnoi, while Iyer hit the winning six to reach his second successive fifty. The win came with 22 balls remaining, giving PBKS a net run rate boost.
