Lucknow Super Giants bowler Digvesh Singh has copped punishment for his exaggerated send-off to Punjab Kings batter Priyansh Arya during an IPL 2025 match at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Tuesday evening. Digvesh dropped the ‘notebook celebration’ after having gotten rid of Arya for eight in the third over of PBKS’s chase of 172.
The leg spinner kept the delivery sho, rt and Arya went for a pull shot but failed to execute it correctly. Ay stop edgedge followed, and Shardul Thakur ran in from mid-on to complete an easy catch.
With Arya beginning his walk back to the dug-out, Digvesh chased after him and began writing his victim’s name on an imaginary notebook. The batter didn’t react though and kept walking.
Notably, the two represented the same team during last year’s Delhi Premier League.
The IPL though hasn’t taken kindly to Digvesh’s send-off. The bowler has been asked to cough up 25 per cent of his match fee as fine besides a demerit point has also been added to his disciplinary record.
“Digvesh Singh, Bowler, Lucknow Super Giants has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees and has also accumulated One Demerit Point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Punjab Kings at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Tuesday," the IPL said in a statement.
Digvesh has admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 and accepted the sanction.
LSG succumbed to their second defeat in third match and have slipped to the sixth spot on the IPL points table. LSG recovered from 35/3, to post a decent 171/7 in their first home match of the season.
However, the total wasn’t enough, with PBKS hunting it down in just 16.2 overs for an eight-wicket win. Digvesh accounted for both the PBKS wickets that fell during the chase, including that of Arya and half-centurion Prabhsimran Singh (69 off 34).
