RBI gets new deputy governor before monitoring policy, tenure will be for three years

The government has approved Poonam Gupta, Director General of the prestigious research institute National Council of Approid Economic Research (NCAER), to be appointed as Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for three years. After Michael Debwrat Patra left the post in January, the post of deputy governor in RBI was vacant.

Sources said that the Cabinet's Appointments Committee (ACC) has approved Gupta's appointment to the post of deputy governor in RBI for three years from the date of taking charge. Currently, Gupta is the Director General of NCAER. He is also a member of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council and the convenor of the 16th Finance Commission.

In which places have work done?

She joined NCAER in 2021 after working in senior positions in the International Monetary Fund in Washington and the World Bank for nearly two decades. Gupta taught at Delhi School of Economics, University of Maryland (America) and worked as a visiting faculty at ISI (Indian Statistics Institute), Delhi.

PHD is done in international economics

She has also been RBI Chair Professor at the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP) and Professor in ICRIER. Gupta has a post -graduate degree in economics from the University of Maryland, USA and a master's degree in Economics from Delhi School of Economics. He won the Exim Bank Award in 1998 for PhD on International Economics.

When will RBI's MPC meet

According to the RBI schedule, the first MPC meeting of RBI is going to be held from April 7 to 9. The Reserve Bank of India has launched the entire schedule of its monetary policy meeting for FY26. According to the RBI schedule, the first MPC meeting of RBI is going to be held from April 7 to 9.
