A diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) can present various challenges, from difficulties in social interactions to communication struggles. However, with early intervention, therapy, and strong support systems, many children with autism can lead fulfilling, almost normal lives. Raising awareness about this complex developmental condition is crucial for better managing it throughout life.
Autism rates all over the world are high and not understanding it may have a major impact on people, their families and communities. Autism Awareness Day in a bid to educate, raise awareness and drive positive change for autistic people worldwide was established by the United Nations on April 2, 2007. Since then, the annual celebration has helped people with the condition and their caregivers by providing them with greater visibility, support, and resources.
As per Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an estimated one in 36 children are identified with autism spectrum disorder. Despite the challenges, children with autism often possess unique strengths and abilities. Some may excel in mathematics compared to their peers, while others may have remarkable memory skills. Many autistic children are visual learners and thrive in creative problem-solving fields such as art, design, and technology.
