Maruti Suzuki WagonR has achieved the top position as the best-selling passenger car in India in the financial year 2024-25. Interestingly, WagonR surpassed Tata Panch, which was at the top of sales in the calendar year 2024.

Another funny thing is that the sales of WagonR have declined in the last financial year. Despite this, the car has retained its reign. Maruti Suzuki has sales of 1,98,451 units of WagonR in Financial Year 25, while Maruti had a 2,00,177 units of sale in Financial Year 24.

Why Maruti WagonR is the first choice of customers

The price of Maruti WagonR starts at 5.65 lakhs and the price of the top model goes up to Rs 8.50 lakh ex -showroom. This segment wagonR is affordable, which makes it fit in the budget of the common man. Along with this, customers get good features and performance in it, which makes it a great value for money option. This is also a reason for this very special interior. The biggest reason is fuel efficiency. The car also gets a great mileage of 22-24 km per liter with petrol and 32-35 kmpkg with CNG. Apart from this, low maintenance also makes car ownership easier. In the Indian car market, Maruti Suzuki Wagon R will compete like Tata Tiago, Tata Punch, Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS, Maruti Baleno and Maruti Fronx according to the price band.

Maruti's small cars sold decreased

It is worth noting that despite a strong performance in sales, Maruti Suzuki's compact segment has declined by 7.58 percent year-on-year. The segment cars have been ahead of models of other companies in Wagonr, Alto K10, Swift, Dzire and Baleno sales, but lagged behind their financial year 2024 figures. Maruti has recorded a total sales of 8,96,507 units in the financial year 2025, which is less than 9,70,109 units in the financial year 2024.

Maruti's demand for SUVs increased

There has been a tremendous bounce in Maruti Suzuki's Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) segment. Sales of models like Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Grand Vitara, Fronx and Jimny increased by 12.12 percent on an annual basis. The company sold 7,20,186 SUVs in Financial Year 25, while 6,42,296 units were sold in the last financial year. These figures show that the demand for big cars in India is increasing rapidly than small cars.
