Jio has emerged as the fastest mobile network in India during the second half of 2024 as par a report by Ookla a platform specializing in network intelligence and connectivity analysis. This ranking applies to both overall mobile performance and specifically 5G services. The report highlighted that Jio delivered a median 5G download speed of 258.54 Mbps while its upload speed reached 14.54 Mbps. Additionally Jio was recognized as the best mobile network in India during this period excelling in both speed and coverage. Airtels strengths While Jio led in speed Airtel stood out for providing the best video streaming experience and the most responsive 5G gaming performance in the country. Airtel demonstrated exceptional 5G consistency with 79.8 per cent of speed test samples meeting the threshold of 25 Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload speeds. Jio on the other hand dominated 5G availability with 73.7 per cent of users staying connected to its 5G network most of the time. It also led in network coverage scoring 65.66 while Airtel followed with 58.17. When it came to video streaming quality Airtel took the lead with a score of 65.73 while Jio emerged as the best for mobile gaming scoring 76.58. However Airtel topped the rankings in 5G gaming performance achieving an impressive 80.17 score. It delivered a median download speed of 117.21 Mbps and an upload speed of 110.96 Mbps. How Ookla measures speed Ookla determines the fastest network based on its Speed Score which evaluates both download and upload speeds. The analysis focuses on devices with modern chipsets to eliminate performance biases caused by older hardware. More insights from the Ookla report According to Ookla’s latest findings Jaipur recorded the highest median mobile download speed among Indias major cities reaching 181.68 Mbps. Kolkata secured the second position while Ahmedabad ranked third. On the lower end of the spectrum Mumbai had the slowest median mobile download speed at 75.75 Mbps followed by Pune and Chennai. The report also revealed that Jio was the fastest mobile service provider across nine major Indian cities as stated in Ookla’s Speedtest Connectivity Report. Reliance Jio Indias leading telecom operator has now introduced its 5G services in the 26 GHz band extending coverage to 21 states and union territories.
