The impact of TRAI's new rule on spam calls and messages has been seen. The Department of Telecommunications has taken major action and blocked more than 1.75 lakh numbers. For this, DoT had run a special anti-spam drive.

DoT has taken major action and blocked about 1.75 lakh numbers. The Department of Telecommunications has taken this action under TRAI's new rule of Unsolicited Commercial Communication (UCC). The Department of Telecommunications had run an anti-spam drive with public participation for this. People had complained about these numbers through the Department of Telecommunications' communication partner Chakshu portal. DoT has also talked about heavy fines on the enterprises operating these numbers.

The Department of Telecommunications has given this information through its official X handle. DoT said in its post that 1.75 lakh Direct Inward Dialing i.e. DID or landline numbers have been blocked. Fake marketing calls were being made to people through these numbers. Also, these numbers were being used for other illegal activities.

According to DoT, these blocked numbers were starting with 0731, 079, 080 etc. They were misusing PRI, Lease Line, Internet Lease Line, SIP, and IPLC. With the help of public participation, these numbers were reported on the Chakshu portal under UCC.

The Department of Telecommunications investigated the communication made from these numbers on the complaint of the people. After this, this action has been taken against them. DoT has appealed to the enterprises that regulations should be followed for making such promotional calls. According to the new rules of TRAI, these promotional calls come under UCC, due to which there is a provision to block their numbers as well as confiscate the equipment used in it. Not only this, heavy fines can also be imposed on the companies.
