The world eagerly awaits the return of BTS (Bantan Sonyeondan), the global phenomenon that has redefined the South Korean music industry. While ARMYs across the globe are counting down the days until their long-anticipated reunion, a recent update from HYBE’s CEO suggests that fans might need to wait a little longer before seeing the group back in full force.During a press event held in Mapo-gu, Seoul, on March 31, HYBE CEO Lee Jae Sang provided some insight into BTS's highly anticipated comeback. Although the group's members are expected to complete their military service by mid-2025, the CEO emphasised that they will require additional time to prepare before making their grand return to the music scene."The BTS members are set to complete their military service by the end of the first half of this year, and they will need time for preparation and production before resuming activities. The company is also preparing by discussing with top-tier composers, but the artists (BTS members) themselves need time for deliberation and preparation," Koreaboo quoted HYBE CEO from the event. Elaborating on the comeback process, Lee Jae Sang further explained, "Typically, the process involves working on songs, releasing an album, and then going on tour. However, since BTS has already risen to the level of global top artists, they are continuously discussing their vision and their 'next' phase. It is necessary to consider and align with this direction carefully."This suggests that while plans for a comeback are in motion, the group is taking their time to carefully prepare their next musical era, ensuring it aligns with their artistic growth and vision.BTS' mandatory military service current statusAs per South Korea's mandatory military service regulations, all able-bodied men are required to enlist. BTS members have been fulfilling this duty in a staggered timeline, with some having already returned while others are still serving. The eldest member, Jin, was the first to enlist in December 2022 and successfully completed his service in June 2024. Following him, J-Hope, who began his service in April 2023, was discharged in October 2024.Meanwhile, Suga enlisted for alternative public service in September 2023 due to a previous shoulder injury and is expected to complete his duty by June 2025. RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook enlisted together in December 2023 and are also set to be discharged around the same time in mid-2025.With all members expected to reunite by mid-this year, ARMYs can look forward to an exciting new chapter for BTS. However, as the HYBE CEO indicated, patience will be key as the group carefully prepares for their long-awaited comeback.
