The death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June 2020 sent shockwaves across the country, leading to a media frenzy and legal battles that deeply affected those associated with him. Rhea Chakraborty, his then-girlfriend, and her family, especially her brother Showik, faced intense scrutiny and legal trouble. While the CBI has now cleared Rhea and her brother of any wrongdoing, the impact of those years remains irreversible. In a recent interview with the Indian Express, Rhea’s friend, Nidhi Hiranandani, reflected on the emotional and psychological toll the case took on Rhea and her family, stating that the “damage can’t be undone.”

Recalling the ordeal, Nidhi Hiranandani described how Rhea and her family were thrown into chaos immediately after Sushant’s death. They barely had a moment to grieve before being caught in a relentless cycle of investigations, media trials, and public scrutiny. Rhea’s arrest and subsequent imprisonment led to unimaginable emotional distress for her parents. According to Nidhi, Rhea’s mother lost her voice due to the stress, spending hours in prayer, hoping for relief. Her father, Indrajit, was equally shattered, unable to comprehend how their lives had turned upside down overnight. The constant media attention, hate campaigns, and public outrage left them struggling to cope.

One of the most painful moments, as recalled by Nidhi Hiranandani, was when Rhea returned home after facing a media mob. She described how Rhea was bruised and physically exhausted, yet had to maintain composure while dealing with the overwhelming situation. Showik, who was only 23 at the time, suffered significant setbacks in his education. He had secured admission to prestigious colleges but was unable to attend due to the ongoing legal battles. The case overshadowed his aspirations, forcing him to grow up quickly and focus on rebuilding his and his family’s life.

Nidhi Hiranandani also emphasized how Rhea became a scapegoat in the entire situation. She mentioned that despite their repeated efforts to clarify the truth, public sentiment had already turned against them. The wave of hatred was so strong that no one wanted to hear their side of the story. The emotional and professional loss Rhea faced was profound—her acting career came to a standstill, and even now, years later, she struggles to find stability.

Although Rhea has displayed resilience, Nidhi admitted that the damage done to her and her family is permanent. The trauma, fear, and pain they endured over the years cannot simply be erased. While the legal battle has now concluded with the CBI exonerating them, the scars left behind by those tumultuous years will take a lifetime to heal.
