New Delhi: Mohsin Naqvi has been named the new President of the Asian Cricket Council. Naqvi who is also the president of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) takes over from Shammi Silva the former head of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). Naqvis term will begin on April 3 2025 and last for two years. The decision was made during an online meeting held on Thursday April 3 with the ACCs members. Silva had taken over as president of the ACC in December last year following Jay Shahs appointment as the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). In a press release Naqvi who is also the Interior Minister of Pakistan said I am deeply honoured to assume the presidency of the Asian Cricket Council. Asia remains the heartbeat of world cricket and I am committed to working with all member boards to accelerate the games growth and global influence. Together we will unlock new opportunities foster greater collaboration and take Asian cricket to unprecedented heights. I also extend my sincere thanks to the outgoing ACC President for his leadership and contributions to the ACC during his tenure. Mohsin Naqvis primary focus will be the Asia Cup 2025 set to take place in September. According to a report from India Today the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is likely to host the six-team tournament. Although India has been designated as the official host for the Asia Cup the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is expected to confirm the UAE as the neutral venue. This move comes after an agreement facilitated by the International Cricket Council (ICC) between India and Pakistan ensuring that matches between the two teams in major ICC events will be held at neutral locations.
