In an effort to guarantee judicial openness, all Supreme Court justices have unanimously agreed to disclose their assets to the public.
In a full court session, the judges of the highest court agreed to reveal their assets, and the information would be posted on the court’s website. At a full court session on April 1, the ruling was made. However, it was made clear that posting the asset declaration on the Supreme Court website would only be done voluntarily.
“The Supreme bench of India’s entire bench decided that judges should declare their assets to the Chief Justice upon taking office and if they make a significant purchase. This also covers any statements made by India’s Chief Justice.
It will be optional to post the assets declaration on the Supreme Court website, according to the website of the highest court.
According to the information, up to thirty of the thirty-three judges have made their statements.
The occurrence takes place against the background of the current scandal surrounding the judiciary, particularly when Justice Yashwant Varma, a judge on the Delhi High Court who is now on the Allahabad High Court, reportedly had a large cash pile found at his home after a fire broke out. Justice Varma is being investigated internally. Since the investigation began, he has not been given any court assignments.
