According to Mohammad Amir Rashid, president of the Dara Shikoh Foundation, the Waqf Act’s modifications would help “poor and Pasmanda” Muslims grow.

“The impoverished and Pasmanda Muslims are overjoyed that the Rajya Sabha has approved the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025. A fresh hope has been brought about by the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025… We gave everyone candy, lighted candles, and exploded crackers. For Muslims, the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, would provide new avenues for growth,” Rashid told the media report.

He made fun of “hardliner” Maulanas and “pseudo-seculars” who opposed the law, accusing them of attempting to “trick” Muslims.

“The Muslims are being duped by the kattar (hardline) Maulanas and pseudo-secularists. I would want to make a modest request that Muslims acknowledge both their own and Waqf’s realities.” The Waqf amendment bill will pave the way for Muslims’ advancement,” Rashid said.

Following the parliament’s passage of the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 on Friday, Congress chairman Mallikarjun Kharge and the leader of the Rajya Sabha slammed the union government, accusing it of taking a “negative stand.”

We maintained our opinions on the measure before them (the administration), but it is their interpretation. They are moving on with their negative stance,” Kharge told reporters.

“Unfortunate” is how Congress MP Ranjeet Ranjan described the passage of the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025.

“According to the constitution, the law is not in the best interests of the country. They are not assisting, as shown by the purpose of their revisions to the waqf amendment bill. They’re only going after a certain community. “The bill is incorrect,” Ranjan continued.

Following a protracted and contentious discussion, the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 was approved by the Parliament early on Friday morning.

Jagdeep Dhankhar, the chairman of the Rajya Sabha, stated, “Ayes 128 and Noes 95, Absent 0. The bill has been approved.

To enact the law, the House convened until midnight.

Kiren Rijiju, the Union Minority Affairs Minister, said that the Waqf Amendment Bill will help millions of Muslims and accused the opposing parties of attempting to mislead the public.

In response to the Rajya Sabha’s more than 12-hour discussion of the bill, Rijiju said that the updated draft included a number of recommendations from the Joint Parliamentary Committee.

The Unified Waqf Management Empowerment Efficiency and Development (UMEED) Bill would be the new name for the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, according to Rijiju.

After a protracted debate, the Lok Sabha approved the Waqf (Amendment) Bill after midnight on Wednesday.

After taking into account the suggestions made by the Joint Parliamentary Committee, which reviewed the legislation that was proposed in August of last year, the administration tabled the amended measure. The goal of the bill is to enhance the management and administration of waqf assets in India by amending the Act of 1995.

By strengthening the registration procedure and expanding the use of technology in waqf record management, the Bill seeks to improve the effectiveness of Waqf boards and address the deficiencies of the previous act.
