New Delhi [India]: The World Athletics stated that the first-ever Neeraj Chopra Classic (NC Classic) javelin throw tournament would take place on May 24 at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula, Haryana, according to Olympics.com.

The one-day javelin throw competition, which is scheduled as the NC Classic, is categorized as a World Athletics ‘A’ category event, meaning that it is worth Gold on the Continental Tour in terms of ranking points.

After the Diamond League, the Continental Tour is a second-tier international athletics series. With four tiers—gold, silver, bronze, and challenger—it was introduced in 2020 as the replacement for the World Challenge series.

Top male and female javelin throwers from across the globe are anticipated to participate in India for the first time in the competition, which will be hosted by India’s best javelin thrower, Neeraj Chopra.

Adille Sumariwalla, the former president of the Athletics Federation of India, had earlier said that the top 10 javelin throwers in the world, both in the men’s and women’s divisions, will compete in the invitational competition.

With an eye on expanding the meeting to include other track and field sports, Neeraj is eager to establish the event as a yearly staple on the global athletics calendar.

“Organizing and bringing a top-tier javelin tournament to India has long been a goal of mine. I have no doubt that my fellow athletes and the Indian fans will produce an event that will be spoken about for years to come. Neeraj Chopra said earlier this year, “I am eager to see how big we can make this.”

The National Federation Senior Athletics Competition in Bhubaneswar last year was Neeraj’s final appearance on Indian soil in 2024. He threw his javelin 82.27 meters in preparation for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

The 27-year-old put on an incredible display in the Summer Games, finishing with a best throw of 89.45 meters to settle for silver, but he was unable to keep his gold medal. Even though he had a great performance on his second try, he battled with four straight foul throws, which kept him from taking home the gold.
