Every actor who enters Bollywood dreams of earning name and fame. But there’s one actor who after tasting success took a break from acting and left the country because he was scared of becoming too famous. Despite coming from a film family he was afraid of fame. His uncle was a superstar of his time and his cousins are still big names in the industry. By now you must have guessed who were talking about. He is none other than Abhay Deol. In a recent interview the actor opened up about his hiatus from acting revealing he didn’t want fame and attention that came with being a public figure.
Right after finishing the shoot for 2009’s Dev D Abhay Deol flew to New York. The film made on a budget of Rs 11 crore went on to earn Rs 20.82 crore worldwide and received positive reviews from critics.
Deol gave an interview to Humans of Bombay where he shared that he moved to New York just before the release of Dev D. “I was finding it hard to deal with the attention and fame because I started getting flashbacks of when I was a kid. I was a sensitive child and I didn’t like the attention. I liked the art creativity and medium. I knew that Dev D was going to be big but I didn’t want to be famous. But at the same time I wanted to act” he told.
The actor shared that his decision to step away was largely due to his internal struggles. He found himself focusing too much on the negatives and had a lot of personal issues to work through. Instead of facing them he chose to walk away. “I was afraid of being famous and everything that came with it” he admitted.
Calling it a trauma Abhay revealed that he did not regret the decision and did not care about stardom he only cared about acting.
When he came back to India he resumed his career and starred in notable movies like including Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara Dev.D Happy Bhag Jayegi Shanghai and Raanjhanaa.
