NMC: To become a professor and associate professor in medical colleges, now one will have to do a Basic Course in Medical Education Technology (BCMET) course. According to the notification issued by NMC, for promotion to the post of associate professor and professor, faculty members will have to do BCMET courses from the institutions nominated by NMC.
The public notice of NMC states that for promotion to the posts of associate professor and professor in broad specialties (MD/MS) and super specialties (DM/MCH) in recognized medical colleges/institutions, they will have to do basic courses in medical technology education from the institutions nominated by NMC.
Training will have to be done before the next academic session.
The notice states that about the appointment of faculty in government medical colleges, where posts have been approved and appointments have been made at the last minute, the Postgraduate Medical Education Board has decided that in such cases an affidavit should be obtained from the Chief Secretary of Medical Education of the concerned State/Union Territory. Which it is confirmed that the appointed faculty member will complete the BCMET training within the next academic session.
Complete the course before applying for LOP.
The notification states that the training course should be completed before applications are invited for a Letter of Permission (LOP) for the academic session 2026-27. Applications for LOP are expected to start around October 2025.
