Kolkata (West Bengal) [India],: After his side defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 80 runs, skipper Ajinkya Rahane of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) stated he was happy with the team’s performance and that it was important to win by a large margin.
Following defeats to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI), defending champions KKR’s campaign was back on track after they defeated SRH by eighty runs thanks to impressive half-centuries from Venkatesh Iyer and Angkrish Raghuvanshi and three-wicket hauls from Vaibhav Arora and Varun Chakravarthy.
“This game was really important for us,” Rahane said at the post-match presentation. It was important to win by a large margin. We were also interested in bowling on this wicket. After losing two early wickets, we wanted to play with aggression but with cricketing strokes in order to consolidate until the sixth over. Guys lower in the order may then score as many runs as they can after we have wickets. pleased with the batting group.
Rahane said that while the club has learned from its errors, the previous two games against MI and even the victory against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) were not up to par.
As a batting unit, we can learn a lot from this. Venkatesh and Rinku are both capable of making incredible shots. Moeen was prepared, Dre (Andre Russell) was seated, and Ramandeep (Singh) was seated in the dugout. Playing normally for the first fifteen overs and then taking it on was the plan. At first, we believed that a surface of 170-180 would be ideal. Balls were gripping more slowly. Three excellent spinners were on our team. Unfortunately, Moeen was unable to bowl tonight. Varun and Sunny (Sunil Narine) bowled really effectively. Additionally, Vaibhav and Harshit (Rana) deserve praise,” he said.
Before the game, SRH won the toss and took the field first. Their choice seemed to be successful as they dismissed Sunil Narine and Quinton de Kock for single figures, cutting KKR to 16/2. However, they were able to rally with a counterattack from Rahane (38 in 27 balls, with four fours and four sixes) and Raghuvanshi (50 in 32 balls, with five fours and two sixes). Rinku Singh (32* in 17 balls, with four boundaries and a six) and Venkatesh Iyer (60 in 29 balls, with seven fours and three sixes) led KKR to 200/6 in their 20 overs with a 91-run partnership for the fifth wicket after the swift dismissal of these two stars.
Harshal Patel (1/43) and Mohammed Shami (1/29) were SRH’s best wicket-takers.
SRH lost wickets quickly and was never really in the game throughout the run-chase. Only Heinrich Klaasen (33 in 21 balls, with two fours and two sixes) and Kamindu Mendis (27 in 20 balls, with a four and two sixes) were able to surpass the 20-run threshold, making Vaibhav Arora (3/29) and Varun Chakravarthy (3/22) stand out.
After two victories and two defeats, KKR’s season is now mostly back on track with this victory. They hold the fifth position. With one victory and three defeats, SRH is in last place.
