After the partition in 1947, when Manoj Kumar reached India with the family, he was just 10 years old. He did school education in Delhi and then graduated from the Hindu College here. When it came to make a career, he decided to go into the world of acting. There was also a big reason behind this decision. He was very impressed by actors like the then superstars Ashok Kumar, Dilip Kumar and Kamini Kaushal. At that time there was a lot of trend among the artists to change their real name… So before coming to films, Harikishan Giri Goswami also became Manoj Kumar and this name also gave him wealth and fame.
In the year 1957, this artist, who made her debut into the film world from fashion, had to yearn for success in the beginning. After fashion, many films like Sahara, Chand, Honeymoon came… But the identity started in 1961 with the film glass doll, although he could not succeed even then. After that, Manoj Kumar made a place in the hearts of people with his performance in the lead role in Piya Milan Ki Aas, Suhag Sindoor, Reshki handkerchief. But still he was craving for that taste of success, which would make his film journey wings. Then came the year 1962…. When Manoj Kumur's films came, 'Hariyali Aur Rasta' and 'Woh Kaun Thi', both of these films gave such love that his thirst to drink his success was filled with success. After that Manoj Kumar did not look back. He continued to quench his thirst with success filled with success.
The year 1965… For Manoj Kumar, it rained as a rain of happiness. At this time, his film Bhagat Singh was released… which not only got a lot of love from the audience… as well as the reviewers who have not been able to write anything special for him stopped. His image also became the patriot from this film itself. The matter reached here that the then Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri called him and asked him to make a patriotic film. After which the film made up of Upkar… This film based on the struggle of the farmer and the jawan gave the flag of success. However, before watching this film, Lal Bahadur Shastri himself became stuck with this world. He was about to see it after returning from Tashkent. But this could not be possible… because the news of his mysterious death came from there.
It is said that when a person reaches the top of success, then gradually it has to come down. By 1980-85, Manoj Kumar, who has touched the floor by continuously climbing the stairs of success, started to get the film of the film journey from the year 1987. This year, films like Kalyug and Ramayana, Santosh and Clerk came, but all three fell badly at the box office. Hurt by these failures, Manoj Kumar gave a break to his performance after the next film Maidan-e-Jung. Manoj Kumar was awarded a total of 7 Filmfare Awards for the best performance, film production and directing. The first of these Filmfare Awards was received for 'Upkar'. The film won four awards for Best Film, Best Director, Best Story and Best Dialogue. In 1992, he was awarded the Padma Shri and then in the year 2016 with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
After saying goodbye to the acting world, however, Manoj Kumar also tried his luck in politics. In the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, he became a candidate from the Bharatiya Janata Party… but his hands could not look special.
During this, Manoj Kumar started suffering from age related diseases. Meanwhile, he also came to know about liver disease. They continued to treat it. But later the doctors told him about a serious disease like liver cirrhosis. Even after getting treatment for a long time, the condition continued to deteriorate, so on February 21, he was admitted to the hospital. But diseases finally stole this best actor… very good person and today, Manoj Kumar went away to shine as a star on 4 April.
