Sara George Muthoot has made a spot on the Forbes World’s Billionaire List for 2024 becoming the only Malayali woman who has featured on this prestigious list. She has an estimated net worth of $1.5 billion (approx. Rs 12516 crore). She joined an elite group of 12 Malayalis who are also part of the list.
M.A. Yusuff Ali the chairman of LuLu Group is the wealthiest Malayali whose global ranking has moved from 497 to 344. His wealth is now at $7.6 billion (Rs 63080 crore) up from $7.1 billion last year. Other Malayali billionaires featured on the list are Sunny Varkey Ravi Pillai Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil and Joy Alukkas.

Many businessmen are involved in corporate affairs Sara George Muthoot is more focused on education and philanthropy. She is the Director of St. George’s School and Paul George Global School in Delhi. These two institutions are known for their academic excellence and progressive vision.
Sara became part of the billionaire spotlight after the sudden passing of her husband M.G. George Muthoot in 2021. As the former chairman of Muthoot Finance he was a well-known figure in India’s financial services sector. After his death Sara inherited a major stake in the company which led to her global billionaires status.
The Muthoot Group was founded back in 1887 by the grandfather of M.G. George Muthoot. Earlier they were traders in food grains and timber for British plantations and later built this financial empire.
Muthoot Finance is India’s largest gold loan NBFC (non-banking financial company). It operates more than 5400 branches across India and serves over 200000 customers daily according to Forbes.
Sara and M.G. George Muthoot has three sons. George M. George the eldest currently serves as the Executive Director of the Muthoot Group. Alexander George the youngest is also a Director in the company. Their second son Paul Muthoot George unfortunately passed away in 2009. In his memory Paul George Global School was established.
Sara George Muthoot has taken her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Science from University of Kerala.
