Whenever stories of saluting the rising sun and shunning the setting sun are told in the glittering world of Hindi cinema the name of that actor will definitely be taken. Who once insulted Amitabh Bachchan by calling him a small star. Then in his days of poverty he asked for help from the same Amitabh and also played a small role in his film. This superstar is none other than Naveen Nischal. Naveen Nischal was born in Lahore to a Bengali family. After completing his schooling he first did modelling and then after winning the primary round of Mr India in Delhi in the 60s he reached Mumbai for the final round. There he met his fathers close friend and well-known film director Mohan Sehgal. Mohan Sehgal asked him to enroll in Punes Film Institute and learn the nuances of the film world. He had said When you learn all the things required to become a hero then come to me. After sometime Naveen approached Mohan Sehgal and he kept his promise and cast him in the film Sawan Bhado in which Rekha worked opposite him. This was the first film in Bollywood for both Rekha and Naveen Nischal. Released in 1970 this film proved to be a superhit and after this there was a line of filmmakers in front of him. The film Sawan Bhado is considered one of the classic romantic-dramas and its songs story and Rekha-Naveen pairing are still in the hearts of the audience. He had become arrogant. Five of his films were released in 1971 which included Buddha Mil Gaya Nadaan Sansaar Ganga Tera Pani Amrit and Parwana. Parwana was that film in which Amitabh Bachchan appeared in a negative role but in a very small role as compared to Naveen. It is said that Naveen Nischol was so arrogant that during the promotion of the film he refused to have a photo session with Amitabh Bachchan. Naveen Nischol has worked with Amitabh in the film Parwana. He considered Amitabh Bachchan a small star and refused films like Mere Apne Roti Kapda Aur Makaan and Deewar in which Vinod Khanna and Shashi Kapoor appeared later. He refused these films because they had Amitabh Bachchan. Arrogant Naveen Nischol considered him a very small artist. Therefore Naveen refused to act in these films. Not respecting co-actors various kinds of tantrums during shooting bad habits drug addiction not paying heed to the instructions of the filmmakers all this started to take a toll on him. Many women kept coming and going in Naveen Nischals life. Before entering films Naveen Nischal had married Dev Anands niece Neelu Kapoor who was Shekhar Kapoors sister. It is said that due to this he had developed a close relationship with Dev Anands family but soon all this started changing. Naveen became close friends with a heroine of that era Padmini Kapila and the matter got so big that Neelu and Naveen Nischal got divorced in 1976. But in the meantime Padmini Kapila befriended the famous producer of that era Prakash Mehra and she left him and went to Prakash Mehra. After the death of his second wife Naveen went to jail. In the year 1996 Naveen married Geetanjali for the second time. After marriage he went to his brothers house with his wife but here too after some time differences started arising and his brother threw him out of the house. Then something happened which shook everyone. Naveens wife Geetanjali committed suicide just three months after this incident and in her suicide note she accused Naveen and his brother of harassment. He was sent to jail and then a long case went on in the court. However after some time he came out on bail. On 9 March 2011 Naveen Nischal was going to Pune to celebrate Holi with his friends. Producer Gurdeep Singh and actor Randhir Kapoor were also with him. On the way they asked Gurdeep to lower the AC in the car. Shortly after Gurdeep lowered the AC Naveen suffered a heart attack and died on the spot.
