Chennai Super Kings (CSK) young fast bowler Mathisha Pathirana has praised wicketkeeper-batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Pathirana says that Dhoni is like a father to him. CSK has shared a video on Instagram in which Pathirana has spoken his heart out about Dhoni. Pathirana joined CSK in 2022 as a replacement for Adam Milne, but the Sri Lankan bowler soon grew close to Dhoni.

'Gets support from Dhoni'

Pathirana said that Dhoni has guided him, which is why he is like a father to him in the cricket world. In the video, not only Pathirana but his parents also praised Dhoni. Pathirana said Dhoni is like my father because when I am in CSK, he gives me a lot of support, guidance, and advice. It is exactly like my father does at home. That's why I consider Dhoni as my father in cricket. Mali is very familiar to me, because when we are in Sri Lanka, Mali means younger brother, so she calls me 'Mali'. It's great.

Pathirana's parents are also fans of Dhoni

Dhoni calls Pathirana by the nickname Mali because his way of bowling resembles former Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga. 22-year-old Pathirana attributed his development in the IPL to Dhoni's absence. His parents also told how Dhoni had promised them to take care of Pathirana. Pathirana's mother Anura Pathirana said, there are no words for Dhoni. He is like God. Mathisha respects Dhoni the way he respects his father.

Pathirana took 14 wickets in the 2024 season while playing for CSK. He has been successful in making an impact this season as well and has taken four wickets in two matches so far.
