is making significant strides in enhancing its following its latest upgrade to A+ economic status in 2025. This initiative aims to bolster economic growth and attract increased inward investment through major projects, including a state-of-the-art international airport, new direct international flights, and an expanded high-speed rail network to within Portugal and with major international hubs.

The Portuguese Government has officially selected the Alcochete region, approximately 40 kilometres east of Lisbon, as the new Luis de Camoes Airport site. This long-awaited decision follows recommendations from an independent technical commission, ending decades of deliberation over the expansion of the capital's airport infrastructure.

The new airport is projected to be operational by 2034 and will eventually replace the existing Humberto Delgado Airport. With an estimated investment of up to €9 billion (£7.5 billion), the project will be funded through European Union support, public-private partnerships, and airport tariffs.

Upon completion, the airport is expected to handle up to 100 million passengers annually by 2050, significantly enhancing Lisbon's status as a major global aviation hub.

Chris Marson, CEO of RTi Family Office, said: "Portugal has seen tremendous growth in recent years, with international events such as the Web Summit, the Portugal Investment Owners Club investment forums, and the IFA Global Conference 2025 bringing thousands of the world's leading tax and investment advisors to Portugal this year."

The International Congress and Convention Association ranked Lisbon among the top three worldwide destinations for congresses and conventions in 2024.

Investor confidence in Portugal is at an all-time high, according to a recent report from Ernst & Young. The study found that 84% of investors surveyed plan to establish or expand operations in Portugal in 2025, surpassing the European average of 72%.

The construction of Luis de Camoes Airport is expected to create approximately 5,500 jobs.

The development will take place in multiple phases, starting with extensive earthmoving and paving for two 4,000-meter runways, followed by the construction of a sprawling 590,000-square-meter terminal.

In line with the airport expansion, Portugal's aviation sector is set to introduce new international flight routes.

United Airlines will launch direct flights from Newark to Faro and Madeira. At the same time, TAP Air plans to inaugurate routes from Lisbon to Los Angeles and Porto to Boston, reinforcing transatlantic connectivity.

With its cutting-edge infrastructure, extensive flight network, and robust economic outlook, the new Luis de Camoes Airport is poised to redefine Lisbon as one of Europe's premier transport and business hubs, shaping the city's future for decades.
