Mumbai: Ram Navami, one of the most sacred festivals in Hinduism, marks the birth anniversary of Lord Rama, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Celebrated with great devotion across India, this festival falls on the ninth day (Navami) of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon) in the Hindu month of Chaitra. According to religious texts, Lord Vishnu incarnated as Lord Rama in the royal household of King Dasharatha of Ayodhya on this very day. Hence, devotees observe this date each year with religious fervour, commemorating the divine birth of Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram.
In 2025, Ram Navami will be celebrated on 6 April, as per the Hindu Panchang (calendar). The Navami tithi (ninth lunar day) begins on 5 April at 7:27 PM and ends on 6 April at 7:24 PM. Since Hindu traditions generally observe festivals according to Udaya Tithi (the tithi present at sunrise), the celebration will take place on 6 April this year.
On Ram Navami, devotees perform special pujas (rituals) to Lord Rama following traditional customs. According to Hindu beliefs, worshipping Lord Rama on this day brings divine blessings and fulfils one’s wishes. Alongside Rama, Goddess Siddhidatri, the ninth form of Goddess Durga, is also worshipped on this occasion. Devotees also carry out specific spiritual practices and remedies believed to bring peace, success, and the fulfilment of desires.
This year, several rare and auspicious planetary alignments (yogas) will coincide with Ram Navami, enhancing the spiritual significance of the day. Notable among them is the Ravi Pushya Yoga, formed when the Pushya Nakshatra falls on a Sunday. Other powerful yogas occurring on this day include Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga, Sulochana Yoga, Malavya Rajyoga, and Budhaditya Rajyoga, making the festival even more spiritually potent.
Ram Navami is not only a celebration of Lord Rama’s birth but also a day of deep spiritual reflection and devotion. With rare yogas aligning this year, 6 April 2025 promises to be a truly divine and auspicious occasion for devotees across the globe.
