India celebrates Ram Navami, a major Hindu holiday, with great fervor and splendor. Lord Rama, Lord Vishnu’s seventh avatar, was born on this day. Devotees gather on this auspicious day every year to participate in religious rites, fasting, and festive processions.
Ram Navami will be observed on Sunday, April 6, 2025. According to the Hindu lunar calendar, the event is celebrated on the Navami Tithi of Shukla Paksha during the month of Chaitra.
The Drik Panchang states that the Navami Tithi starts on April 5 at 7:26 PM and finishes on April 6 at 7:22 PM.
The Madhyahna era, when Lord Rama is said to have been born, is the most auspicious time to carry out Ram Navami ceremonies.
• Madhyahna Muhurat: April 6 from 11:08 AM to 1:39 PM
Practices of Devotion
Devotees start the day by taking a sacred plunge, particularly in the Sarayu River near Ayodhya, where Lord Rama was born. It’s standard practice to fast from dawn until sundown.
Lights and flowers are used to decorate temples. Followers take part in:
Sessions of kirtan and bhajan
• Recitations of the Ramayana
• Havan and puja rituals
Exquisitely adorned idols of Hanuman, Lakshmana, Sita, and Lord Rama are shown in grand processions. Chanting and music accompany these processions, creating a joyous and pious ambiance.
To commemorate Lord Rama’s victory over evil, theatrical reenactments of incidents from the Ramayana are performed across India, particularly in the northern regions.
For devotees, Ram Navami 2025 is expected to be a spiritually enlightening occasion. With its early morning customs, lavish festivities, and storytelling, this day serves as a potent reminder of morality, devotion, and Lord Rama’s heavenly heritage.
