If you want a home full of smart lights, then Philips Hue remains the best brand in the business. The tech firm's range of app-powered products already offers simple ways to control your bulbs, create daily routines and set the mood via clever colour-changing technology.
I've been using Hue for well over five years and, although pretty pricey, there really isn't anything else that comes close to matching these connected bulbs and intelligent lights.
Now there's another addition to the expansive range, with Philips recently launching a new device called the Twilight.
This modern-looking lamp can be placed anywhere in your home, but it really shines when positioned on a bedside table.
The idea of this device is to slowly send you off to sleep with calming tones that gently dim as you nod off. Then, when it's time to get out of bed, the Twilight's lamp acts just like the sunrise, so you'll feel more like it's summer, even in the darkest depths of winter.
What makes the Twilight different from other lamps is that it has a neat dual lighting system tucked inside its body.
That means the main light can glow in one colour whilst a multi-coloured hue is then created on your wall via something Philips calls ColourCast gradient projection technology.
It might sound like a massive gimmick, but having tested it, I can confirm that it really does create the perfect ambience for relaxing before hitting the sack.
It's also a much nicer way to wake up than being in a pitch-black room that's lit up like a football stadium when you hit the bright white lightbulb switch on the wall.
Using the Hue app, you can light your room via the pre-set scenes or create your own custom look using the expansive colour pallet.
The Twilight lamp also looks stylish and is available in both black and white.
It's genuinely a nice device that I can highly recommend, especially during the long winter mornings when it feels like the sun is never going to rise.
If you already own Hue bulbs, the set-up is simple: connect to the Hue Bridge hub device, sold separately, and start lighting your room.
The Twilight can be used without a Bridge but it's far easier to control if you link it via this £49 accessory. The Twilight has definitely helped me nod off and wake up in the morning and has become a useful part of my sleep routine.
My main issue is the price.
This thing costs a whopping £249.99 and if you have a double bed with dual bedside tables, it's likely that you'll want a pair of them to match.
That means spending an eye-watering £500 and maybe a bit more if you need a Philips Hue Bridge as well.
A quick trip to Amazon will show endless "wake up" lights that also offer the ability to dim at night and slowly glow in the morning and most cost well under £50.
If you love the look, want the ultimate sleep lamp and have plenty of cash in the bank, the Philips Twilight really shines.
It just feels like a lot of money, and that price - especially if you need two - might end up giving you nightmares.
