New Delhi: Delhi Capitals registered a crucial 25-run win over Chennai Super Kings in a high-stakes IPL 2025 encounter at the MA Chidambaram Stadium Chennai. It was a well-rounded performance from the visitors who outplayed CSK in both departments to secure their second win of the season. Batting first Delhi got off to a shaky start as Jake Fraser-McGurk departed for a duck in the opening over caught by Ashwin off Khaleel Ahmed. However KL Rahul held the innings together with a sublime 77 off 51 deliveries including 5 fours and 3 sixes. He played the perfect anchor especially during a 54-run partnership with the aggressive Abishek Porel (33 off 20) who provided vital momentum in the powerplay.
Middle-Order Cameos Boost DC to 183
In the middle overs Axar Patel (21 off 14) and Sameer Rizvi (20 off 15) chipped in with quick cameos. Tristan Stubbs added the finishing touches with a fiery unbeaten 24 off 12 balls pushing Delhi to a strong 183/6. Among the CSK bowlers Khaleel Ahmed (2/25) and Matheesha Pathirana (1/31) were the pick while Jadeja and Noor Ahmad grabbed a wicket each.
CSK’s Top Order Collapses Under Pressure
Chasing 184 Chennai’s innings unraveled early. Mukesh Kumar removed Rachin Ravindra cheaply and Mitchell Starc dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad soon after. Conway (13) Shivam Dube (18) and Ravindra Jadeja (2) also fell without making a major impact. Vipraj Nigam struck twice and Kuldeep Yadav trapped Jadeja in front leaving CSK reeling at 74/5.
Shankar and Dhoni Fight Back in Vain
Vijay Shankar stood firm amidst the collapse scoring an unbeaten 69 off 54 balls. He was aided by MS Dhoni who played a valiant hand of 30* off 26 deliveries. However the required run rate kept climbing and despite their resistance CSK could only reach 158/5.
Capitals Climb; CSK Left Searching for Answers
With this win Delhi Capitals showcased their depth and tactical discipline especially with the ball. Chennai on the other hand will need to address their top-order struggles and bowling consistency as the season progresses.
