Paris Saint-Germain secured their fourth consecutive Ligue 1 championship on Saturday with a 1-0 victory over Angers, maintaining their undefeated league record this season.
The win gives PSG an unassailable 24-point advantage over second-place Monaco, who play Brest later Saturday, and mathematically guarantees the title with six matches still to play.
Under Luis Enrique’s guidance, the Parisian club has been dominant throughout the campaign, amassing 23 wins and five draws in 28 matches. If they avoid defeat in their remaining fixtures, PSG would become the first team in French top-flight history to complete an entire season unbeaten.
“This championship represents our fourth straight title and extends our remarkable run of success in domestic competition,” a club spokesperson said.
The championship marks PSG’s 11th title in the past 13 seasons, highlighting their overwhelming dominance of French football since Qatar Sports Investments acquired the club in 2011. It also represents their 13th league championship overall, putting them three titles ahead of both Marseille and Saint-Etienne.
Luis Enrique, who joined PSG in summer 2023, has now claimed back-to-back league titles despite overseeing a significant squad transformation. Following the departures of Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Sergio Ramos before his first season, and star forward Kylian Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid last summer, the Spanish coach has implemented a new strategic vision alongside sporting director Luis Campos.
The club has pivoted toward youth, bringing in talents like Joao Neves, Desire Doue and Willian Pacho — all under 23 years old — during the 2024 summer transfer window. Georgian star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia also joined in January, reinforcing their commitment to building around younger players. In February, Luis Enrique signed a contract extension through 2027.
PSG’s season isn’t over yet as they pursue additional trophies. They face Aston Villa in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday and have already reached the Coupe de France final after coming from behind to defeat second-tier USL Dunkerque last Tuesday.
